Off-line Karma: Towards a Decentralized Currency for Peer-to-peer and Grid Applications (Brief Abstract)
نویسنده
چکیده
P2P and grid systems allow their users to exchange information and share resources in a uniform and reliable manner. In an ideal world, users make roughly as much resources available as they use. In reality, this is not always the case, and some kind of currency or barter (called karma) is needed that can be exchanged for resources to limit abuse. P2P and grid systems are distributed systems without centralised control or hierarchical organisation. Unfortunately, all currency-like systems known require some kind of centralised control to manage security and to detect fraud (e.g. double spending). To solve this problem, we present a completely decentralised, off-line karma implementation for P2P and grid systems, that detects double spending and other types of fraud under varying adversarial scenarios. The system is based on the tracing of the spending pattern of coins, and distributing the normally central role of a bank over a predetermined, but random, selection of nodes. The system is designed to allow nodes to join and leave the system at arbitrary times1. Off-Line Karma: A Decentralized Currency for Peer-to-peer and Grid Applications
Peer-to-peer (P2P) and grid systems allow their users to exchange information and share resources, with little centralised or hierarchical control, instead relying on the fairness of the users to make roughly as much resources available as they use. To enforce this balance, some kind of currency or barter (called karma) is needed that must be exchanged for resources thus limiting abuse. We pres...

متن کاملThe Challenges and Trends of Deploying Blockchain in the Real World for the Users’ Need
Blockchain technology is a decentralized and open database maintained by a peer-to-peer network, offering a “trustless trust” for untrusted parties. Despite the fact that some researchers consider blockchain as a bubble, blockchain technology has the genuine potential to solve problems across industries. In this article, we provide an overview of the development that Blockchain technology has h...
متن کاملElaborating a Decentralized Market Information System
A Decentralized Market Information System (DMIS) that aggregates and provides information about markets is an important component for achieving markets in Grid and Peer-to-Peer systems. The proposed work is the development of a framework for the DMIS, which fulfils the economic provision within the main technical requirements like scalability towards nodes and data attributes and robustness aga...
متن کاملPastryGridCP: A Decentralized Rollback-Recovery Protocol for Desktop Grid Systems
Desktop Grids are composed of several thousands of resources. They are characterized by high volatility of resources, due to voluntary disconnections or failures. This could affect the proper termination of applications execution. PastryGrid is a decentralized system which manages desktop grid resources and user applications over a fully decentralized P2P network. In this paper we present Pastr...
